Netflix prepares for first live, global streaming event

Chris Rock comedy gig is set to stream in early 2023

Netflix has announced plans for its first ever live, global streaming event, which will be a gig by comedian Chris Rock.

The event will take place in early 2023, with more details to be announced.

TVBEurope reported earlier this year that the streamer was looking to move into livestreaming. It follows moves by competitors such as Disney Plus, which livestreams Dancing With the Stars, and Apple, which recently signed a deal to stream live MLS football matches.

As Netflix is yet to enter the sporting arena, it suggests the company could be looking to trial its live capabilities with the Rock special.

“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” said Robbie Praw, Netflix vice president of stand-up and comedy Formats. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”
