HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The gas leak reported at the IT construction site on Correa Road near the University of Hawaii at Manoa has been secured.

According to a UH Manoa Campus Security, multiple buildings were evacuated. The buildings include Physical Science, Bilger, Bilger Addition, the Keller buildings, and McCarthy mall.

HAZMAT and the Fire Department arrived on scene and were able to patch and plug the leak. Reentry into the area is being allowed.

Fire Capt. Terry Seelig told us that the gas leak was a construction related event that damaged a gas line. Synthetic natural gas was leaking from the line, but because the gas is lighter than air, it rose quickly.

The gas company is working to repair the line.

No injuries were reported.
