At least 28 people were killed and 36 wounded in a suicide bomb attack in northern Baghdad on Friday evening, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.
The suicide bomber in an explosive vest blew himself up at a park packed with families in al-Qahira district, the source said on condition of anonymity.
The toll could rise as ambulances and civilian cars are evacuating the victims to the city's hospitals and medical centers, the source said.
Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in five years, which raises fears that the country is sliding back to the full- blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when the monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.
