FORREST CITY (KATV) — An Arkansas teacher is off the job and could face charges after authorities say she pepper sprayed a special needs student in the face in a high school cafeteria.
According to the police report, another school employee reported seeing Keresia Jones in the cafeteria Monday "following the student and yelling at him to settle down and get his tray."
The student appeared agitated, but reportedly did as Jones said.
The report then states the student started walking toward Jones, who yelled at him to stop, before spraying him in the face with mace.
Forrest City School District Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Hardrick says Jones violated policy by having mace in school, and she has been removed from the campus.
"We did take immediate, and what I consider to be appropriate action as soon as the allegations were brought to my attention, in regards to the teacher," said Dr. Hardrick.
Several misdemeanor charges are pending, including third degree battery, possession of tear gas-pepper spray, and terroristic threatening.
