A judge Friday sentenced a La Crosse man who sexually assaulted a caregiver for his disabled daughter to five years on probation.
Jeffrey Roble, 58, must serve the first eight months in the La Crosse County Jail.
As his 25-year-old daughter stirred in a nearby bed, Roble on May 7 assaulted the caregiver while she was asleep and refused to stop when she demanded, according to the complaint.
He drank 12 beers and took his daughter’s sedative before the incident.
“This was a predatory action,” Circuit Judge Dale Pasell said. “She suffers now and may continue to suffer for a long time.”
The victim told the judge the assault has affected every area of her life. She has difficulty sleeping and has nightmares when she does. The woman said she quit school and is losing a connection with her husband and children.

“I feel completely betrayed in the worst way possible,” she said. “This has completely ruined my life.”
Her mother told the judge her daughter is suffering from depression and that her children are worried. Her father, who spoke directly to Roble, questioned how he could assault someone who was caring for his disabled daughter.
“What you did, I can’t comprehend it,” the woman’s father said. “My daughter will never be the same.”
Roble, who pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual assault, apologized to the victim and her family for the trauma he caused, though he compared an apology to “a Band-Aid on a shotgun wound.”
“I had no right to violate you physically, mentally and emotionally,” he said.
