SEATTLE – Thirteen Seattle Pacific gymnasts received Scholastic All-America awards and the team was ranked 13th overall among NCAA schools in the grade point average standings compiled by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches.

The team was recognized for the collective 3.5023 GPA of its gymnasts through the 2013-14 academic year. That put the Falcons third overall among non-Division I schools. A total of 63 NCAA gymnastics teams were recognized for posting cumulative GPAs above 3.00.

In addition, Seattle Pacific was the top team in its league, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, and received the inaugural MPSF Academic Team championship award. Sacramento State finished a close second with a 3.4900 and was 14th overall in the NACGC team standings.

Senior Lisa Goodhew (Boulder, Colo.) topped SPU's list of individual honorees with a near-perfect 3.97 GPA. Freshman Lauren Glover (Fort Collins, Colo.) was second on the team at 3.90.

Maria Hundley (3.84 GPA) and Kai Tindall (3.76 GPA) were among the 13 SPU honorees. Earlier this year, those two were named to the prestigious Capital One Academic All-America team produced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Hundley, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo., became the first SPU gymnast since 1986 to win three individual event national championships. She captured the vault and balance beam titles and tied for top uneven bars honors at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships in Providence, R.I.

A native of Brier, Wash. and product of Mountlake Terrace High School, Tindall tied for first place on the floor exercise at the national meet.

SPU's other Scholastic All-Americans were Sydney Clark (3.50), Stephanie Cross (3.54), Shannon Escarra (3.61), Kristi Hayashida (3.67), Kenley Memmel (3.69), Alyssa Otiz (3.50), McKenna Page (3.77), Rain Sullivan (3.62) and Tracie Villanueva (3.72).

The Falcons finished third in the team standings at the USAG Championships.

SPU, which registered the six highest team scores in school history during the 2014 campaign, qualified for the national meet for the 32nd time in the last 33 years.
