ANN ARBOR -- Michigan freshman running back Derrick Green is back on the field with his teammates, without restrictions.

Green, who was forced to miss practice due to a minor injury last week, was back with the team during a fully-padded workout Wednesday according to coach Brady Hoke.

On top of that, Hoke says he expects both Green (whose injury was undisclosed) and junior linebacker Brennen Beyer (hamstring) to participate in Michigan's first fall camp scrimmage Saturday.

"He's doing some things," Hoke said of Green. "He came back probably a little earlier than he should have, but he wanted to play.

"He showed a couple flashes."

The 5-foot-11, 240-pound Green -- a five-star recruit and the No. 1-ranked running back prospect in the 2013 class -- is expected to push fifth-year senior Fitz Toussaint for the staring halfback spot when the Wolverines open the season on Aug. 31.

And now that he's back at full strength, he's got roughly two and a half weeks to pull even -- or ahead -- of his upperclassman teammate.

As for Beyer, Hoke says the junior linebacker is going through full contact drills -- but still hasn't been full-go during scrimmage situations.

He expects to have him back in action Saturday, but the staff is still being cautious.

"Beyer's practicing a lot of stuff," Hoke said. "He's doing all the contact work in supervised situations. We're not throwing him out there when we're going 11 on 11 yet, but we're being (a little) careful with his hamstring."

Beyer is currently competing with senior Cam Gordon at strong-side linebacker, a position current up for grabs due to Jake Ryan's knee injury.
