Default Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition X Voting Thread

    {table=head]Entry|Author|1st Place|2nd Place|3rd Place|Total|MLTSP Votes|MUE Votes

Unfortunately, ShadowFireLance's Present Surprise is disqualified for being incomplete by the contest's deadline.

Welcome one and all to the Voting thread for the tenth Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition! We have three wonderful entries for you to peruse over and only one will end up taking home the gold!

Now, the way the voting for this competition works is as follows:

    • You receive five votes to cast.
    • The first three votes are to be given to the entries that you believe should come in first, second and third place respectively. First place votes are worth seven points, second place three points and third place one point each. Keep in mind that such choices should go to the entries that you believe fit most closely to the given concept of the contest and not just the entries you like the most.
    • The fourth vote is to be given to the entry that you believe is "Most Likely to See Play". This vote is cast for the entry that you could see yourself allowing as a DM or you could see yourself wanting to and being allowed to play at an actual game session by your DM.
    • The fifth vote is to be given to the entry that you believe is the "Most Unique". This vote is cast for the entry that you least expected to see made for this competition and that stands out the most compared to it's peers.
    • You may apply all types of votes to the same entry (but you of course cannot select the same entry for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place), but doing this does not better the chances of that entry winning anymore than if you selected three separate entries.
    • Once you make your vote, that's final. You can not take it back or change it. The first vote I see and tally on the scoreboard is how it will be until the end of the voting period.
    • Entrants are allowed to vote and can vote for their own entries if they so wish.
    • Please give reasoning for why you selected an entry as the recipient of any of your votes.
    • Please Bold your choice for each vote.
    • In the case of any ties I will cast the tiebreaker vote.

The voting will remain open through January 15th and the winners will be declared January 16th.

Okay. I'll list the easy votes first.

Most Unique: Winter Warrior. I don't think anyone expected to see someone base a class off "winter of one's life" for this contest. And this is coming from the guy who made an unarmed ice-themed paladin.

Most Likely to See Play: Winter Warrior. The group I DM for doesn't typically use fancy races or PrCs. Mainly because we only have one splatbook. So the question is really, which would I most likely use for an NPC. And I'd probably use this one, to make for an interesting villain.

Now for the tough part. Deciding on 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

1st place, I'll give to Sainesti. Normally homebrew races aren't as interesting to me, but the new mechanic of Ice Crafting earned it my vote.

2nd and 3rd place is tougher. Both PrCs are very nice. But despite me singing the praises of the Winter Warrior with my first two votes, I have to give 2nd place to my own entry. The reason being the Winter Warrior's age requirement. As interesting of an idea as it is, part of my votes is based on "Would I use it as a player?" and the age requirement prohibits me from wanting to use it like that. It's still a perfectly nice class for NPCs, but Defenders of the North seem just a bit more playable.

    Summary of votes:
    1) Sainesti
    2) Defender of the North
    3) Winter Warrior
    MLTSP) Winter Warrior
    MUE) Winter Warrior
Avatar by Venetian Mask. It's of an NPC from a campaign I may yet run (possibly in PbP) who became a favorite of mine while planning.

1st: Defender of the North. A useful class for good-aligned martial characters who want some more flavour with the restrictions of the Code of Conduct.
2nd: Sainesti. I really like the idea of Christmas Elves as Eldritch Slave who forged weapons for their masters.
3rd: Winter Warrior. While a decent class for those who have become old, I can't see a reason players would base a build around it.
Most Likely to See Play: Defender of the North. I was planning on playing a paladin for my next character and this would fit rather nicely.
Most Unique: Winter Warrior. As none expected the metaphorical winter.

1st: Winter Warrior. Excellent concept and great design.
2nd: Defender of the North. It's very cool, and I like the gift-giving mechanic, but I was blown away by the Winter Warrior.
3rd: Sainesti. It's an unusual and interesting way of looking at the elves. I like how it manages to keep the traditional flavor with Ice Crafting but puts a new spin on the race by giving them claw and/or gore attacks.
Most Unique: Winter Warrior. I know it's been said, but it bears repeating that it's a surprising take on winter. I like it.
Most Likely to see play: Winter Warrior. I'm actually going to ask if I can use the class in my current campaign

    Okay, here we go.

1st: Defender of the North. It needs some cleanup and clarification before it's ready to see play, but I love the gift-giving mechanic-- he's like an Artificer, but cuddlier, punchier, and covered in ice. I want one visiting my PCs before a climactic battle-- we can re-enact that scene from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
2nd: Winter Warrior. I worked hard on it and I think that it's the best entry mechanically, but it's far enough from the contest concept that I don't want to vote myself 1st place.
3rd: Sainesti. If I weren't already planning on ways to play a Winter Warrior, this would get my MLTSP vote. I like fey and I like freaky black blood and I love the antlers-- If I ever play one of these, it's gonna be a Guardian. I'm very sad to have to vote it 3rd, because this is the only entry that I could see in a published book.
Most Unique: Winter Warrior, for the same reasons that I voted it 2nd place. I think it's well-made and it's a weird angle on the contest.
Most Likely to see play: Winter Warrior. I made it because I like playing older characters. I smile whenever I roll an array with three odd numbers. And now, I get to play creaky old non-spellcasters, too!

EDIT: Oh, and go right ahead, Attila, just shoot me a link when you make the character. Thanks fer sayin' nice things about it.

We've got a clear front runner, but it's a toss up between second and third place!

    1) Winter Warrior (I like the idea the best)
    2) Defender of the North (I expected to see this. Would have liked to have seen more magical abilities specific to the individual.)
    3) Sainesti (I liked the concept, but would have liked it to be more fleshed out)
    MLTSP) Winter Warrior
    MUE) Sainesti

And I don't mind one bit. I'd rather come in second place than come in first if it would have been an upset
