At least nine Afghan civilians were killed and scores others injured in a twin bomb explosion in the southern city of Kandahar on Friday, officials said, dpa reported.

Javid Faisal, spokesman for the provincial governor, told dpa that some of those injured in the attack were in critical condition.

He said two bombs hidden in two cars were detonated remotely in Aino Meena, a barricaded compound housing area.

A medical worker at the local Maiwand Hospital told dpa that he had received at least 45 injured people, many of whom were children and women.

The attack comes just one day after a suicide bomber targeted a foreign military convoy in Kabul, which killed nine civilians and six foreigners.
