LANCASTER COUNTY, SC (WBTV) - A Lancaster County Schools bus driver was suspended after wrecking the bus with special needs students on board Monday morning, the Lancaster County Schools public safety director says.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Ander Vincent Road off of Highway 75. The seven special needs students, driver's aid and bus driver on board were not injured.

The safety director believes the driver will be cited by Highway Patrol.

The bus driver told school officials she veered off the road to avoid a car and hit some bushes. The students were going from Indian Land to the Lancaster area for services, school officials say.

The safety director says EMS responded to the scene but everyone was OK and the students proceeded to go to school.

The bus driver was suspended automatically per school policy. School officials will await drug and alcohol testing results. The safety director says this was the driver's third year.
