Police are searching for two men who robbed a person in a wheelchair at the University Avenue Caltrain station in Palo Alto.

The victim was sitting on the southbound platform at about 1 a.m. Saturday when the men walked up to him and grabbed a brown paper bag containing several bottles of his prescription medication, the Palo Alto Police Department and Caltrain said in a joint news release Tuesday.

The men also rifled through the victim’s pockets, authorities said. They allegedly took his cellphone and wallet, emptying the latter of an identification card and cash before tossing it on the ground.

The men then ran north toward the bus station and were last seen running westbound across El Camino Real. Officers searched the area with a dog but could not find either of the men.

The victim described the first suspect as black, in his 20s and about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build. He was bearded and wearing a black jacket, black jeans and black shoes.

The second suspect was white, in his 20s and had a thin build. He was wearing a multicolored backpack.

The strong-arm robbery investigation is being handled by detectives with the Transit Police Bureau of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the station.

No other robberies at train stations in Palo Alto have been reported recently, according to authorities.
