Ukraine: Donetsk Unity Demo Enters Third Day

The “Voice of Donbas” campaign for peace and against weapons is continuing [on May 22] for the third day in a row.

Once again, at exactly 12 midday, factory sirens blared and drivers hooted their horns.

According to eyewitness reports, while the protest was going on, supporters of the Donetsk People’s Republic” gathered near the Taras Shevchenko monument, close to the occupied regional government building in Donetsk, and shouted “No to Ahmetov” and threw stones at vehicles. They also shouted, “Ahmetov is the enemy of the people”.

It was Rinat Ahmetov, the wealthiest businessman in the region and in Ukraine generally, who called for the “Voice of Donbas” campaign. In revenge, the Donetsk People’s Republic has pledged to nationalise his businesses.

As Podrobnosti reported earlier, Ahmetov has described the Donetsk separatists as common troublemakers who whill soon be “booted out”.

Metals industry workers in Donbas are conducting their own campaign against the Donetsk People’s Republic.
