induction kit yes or no or normal filter

Recommended Posts

i brought a green pannel air filter

when fitted the car doesnt go as well as when i put the standard air filter in

any ideas why this could be as thought the idea was to improve driving?

do induction kits work well on the vrs 1.8t or a waste of money?

was thinking of trying the k&n induction kit for £99

any body got one fitted and do these gain any performance or just noise

or should i stick to the standard air filter

any thoughts

Steer clear of ind kits where the filter fits straight onto the maf......there a no no!

Look for a decent CAI where the filter sits on the end of a pipe away from the maf and usually sits behind the bumper.

Or just a decent panel filter, I'm running a k&n in a modified box that has a 3" feed direct to the bumper, which IMO feels better than the CAI but nof as noisy.

Others swear by just buying new paper filter and just replacing it on a regular basis.

As SIVRS says, avoid open cone filters. They suck in hot air from the engine and sound chavvy. I tried one on my car for less than 24 hours and wasnt impressed. I got bad heat soak and it sounded silly.

I have a Neuspeed kit on mine and it uses a big metal divider to stop heat soak and uses the cold air feed as well. I've definitely noticed a difference. Just don't buy one that sits under the bonnet and sucks a load of warm air in.

Plus it does sound fruity, defo not silly. Haha.

As already stated you're better off fitting a Green Cotton, K&N etc replacement panel filter in the standard airbox rather than an induction kit that sucks hot air from inside the engine bay. CAI obviously doesn't suffer that problem.

Nothing wrong with the standard filter and airbox, so I'd say save your money for something that makes a big difference.

Such as a remap or sportier suspension.

i brought a green pannel filter and had it in for a day and put the standard back in

didnt make any difference infact seemed to lose power

this is why i was thinking of a induction cold air feed for mine

ebay do a few cheaper ones meant to be ok

but i think im going for the k&n 57i

With regards to the filter on the maff/no CAI so we get heat soak...

I went to ultimate dubs a while back and they had these billion BHP cars and they where basically doing what we say you shouldn't on the AUQ engine. Do they know something we don't? I can get pics to explain if needed.

But they drop thousands in there cars and if this can kill an engine, why are they doing it?

Get pics, as my guess is if there show cars it'll be for the tidy uncluttered look of the engine bay

An engine needs cold/dense air to be at it's best. not warm air which is what a cone slapped on the end of the maf will be getting.

Yeah, you're right there but even the small amount of time they are being used it can't be that good for it!

Show cars all neat n tidy n smooth that's why. I've seen some running no filter at all to get the less is more look.

My dad suggested that one to me. Answer was noooooo lol.

Lol, no I Dnt think I'd fancy running no filter. Trailer queens only!

The k&n will be ok. I used to run one of those eBay specials but replaced the filter with a k&n cone. Had it on a year and it was fine, now run a k&n panel in a modified airbox with a 3" feed down to the bumper, IMO it pulls better than it did with the CAI it's just not as noisy

this is the one i was looking at

k&n with cia so should be able to go under the arch for cold air

http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-0430

No don't get that one as it is not a CAI as such. It is just a bolt onto MAF that will cause heat soak. The plastic cold air pipe would be unless on that so forget it.

Any CAI that is going to come with a full length metal tube that routes the cone filter away from the engine bay, normally down towards the front bumper area.

Piper do a Viper kit, or a tornado kit.

Forge to a good quality kit

I have the ABD kit (similar to forge) that use a K&N cone.

few pics to show you where it fits.

I use a CAI and it goes down past where the airbox wouldve been, down the side of the battery and into the bumper, did have to twist the horn unit a little bit so that it wouldnt rip the cone filter. Also be careful you go through the duck ponds that form in the road after heavy rain as drenching your filter cant be good, the last thing you want is sucking water up :)

Sounds a bit beefier but nothing drastic.. as its a turbo,

I was more towards an open cone filter on a CAI because the Recirc Valves sounds even more beautiful on let off.

Being a Skoda and having a hint of quality about them now theyre part of the panzerfaust elite the induction may not sound as sporty or the RV sound as loud inside the car as the NVH i find is rather good, but from people outside reports are it sounds nice but not too chavvy.

i thought that the pipe on the k&n was the same

with the pipe going down so you put the filter down by the front arch / bumber

The pipe in that kit is the cold air feed not what the filter goes on. If you want a k&n you need to be looking at the typhoon version
