Man remanded in prison for raping mentally ill woman

A 20 year old man, Terzoo Ugoo was Friday ordered remanded in Prison custody by a Makurdi Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a mentally ill woman.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Terzungwe Kajo, informed the court that Ugoo carried out the act sometime in October at Abough Village, behind Makurdi Modern Market.

The prosecutor also informed the court that the case was reported at the B department of the Benue State Police Command headquarters, Makurdi by the mother of the victim.

According to the Kajo, the accused person dragged his victim inside his room while she was passing and raped her. He added that he covered her mouth so she could not call for help.

Kajo told the court that the offence contravenes Section 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Lillian Tsumba, ordered the accused remanded in prison custody and adjourned hearing to Dec. 4.
