Special needs teaching assistant accused of sex assault

TORONTO

A teaching assistant is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage special needs student at an Etobicoke high school several years ago.

Toronto Police say the 43-year-old man faces numerous charges stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred at Martingrove Collegiate Institute, located at Martin Grove Rd. and Eglinton Ave. W., between October 2010 and December 2011.

“It is alleged that the man worked with children” at Martingrove,” Const. David Hopkinson said in a statement released Friday, explaining the accused worked with special needs kids.

He said the teaching assistant is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl on “numerous occasions.”

Richard Ford, of Toronto, is charged with two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and sexual exploitation.

“Police believe there may be more victims,” Hopkinson said.
