Police Blotter: April 22 to 28

The weekly crime activity report from the Greenbelt Police

April 20: Jose Francisco Linares-Alvarez, 36, of Greenbelt was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired by alcohol and failing to drive right of center on the intersection of Breezewood Drive and Cherrywood Terrace at 1:20 a.m. The suspect was released on citations pending trial.           

April 21: Juan Perez Cartro, 37, of Greenbelt was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and driving without a license on the intersection of Springhill Lane and Breezewood Court at 12:14 a.m.  The suspect was released on citations pending trial.             

April 22: An unknown suspect threw a rock and cracked a bedroom window, causing malicious destruction to a residence on the 6000 block of Springhill Drive at 10:32 a.m.

Small knife punctures to three of a vehicle’s tires were found on the 6200 block of Breezewood Drive.

April 23: Oleksiy Y. Kotov, 31, of Greenbelt was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired by alcohol on the 6100 block of Breezewood Drive at 7:44 p.m. The suspect was released on citations pending trial.

An assault took place on Northbound Kenilworth Avenue at 7:39 p.m. The victim reported a road rage incident occurred after she changed lanes when approaching I-95. Another vehicle described as a white Toyota Land Cruiser then pulled next to the victim’s vehicle, causing her to drive onto the shoulder of Kenilworth Avenue. The driver of the Toyota exited his vehicle and began banging on the windows of the victim’s vehicle. When the victim picked up her cell phone and advised she was calling the police, the suspect got in his truck and fled the area.  

A 1996 white Dodge Caravan reported stolen from the 9200 block of Springhill Lane was located by the reporting party in the 6200 block of Breezewood Drive with a damaged ignition.

Four male juveniles, ages 11 to 14, were arrested after attempting to gain entry to a parked vehicle at the parking lot at 6000 Greenbelt Road. The juveniles were charged with attempted theft of a motor vehicle and released to their parents, pending action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

April 24: A Panasonic 50-inch Plasma TV and remote to a Sony BluRay disc player were taken from a residence on the 9100 block of Edmonston Court at 10:49 p.m.        

April 25: A 1997 Mercury Mountaineer, dark blue with a gray band on the bottom and with Maryland tags M345751, was stolen on 6000 Greenbelt Road. 

A punctured right front passenger side tire was reported on the 6200 block of Breezewood Drive. 

April 26: Alvin Thomas, 49, of Temple Hills was arrested and charged with assault-first degree, assault-second degree and carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent to cause injury on the 6400 block of Capitol Drive at 2:03 p.m.  The suspect was released to the Department of Corrections for a hearing before a District Court commissioner.

A home invasion occurred on the 6100 block of Breezewood Court reported at at 4:03 p.m. The first suspect climbed to the balcony and entered the apartment then let the second suspect in through the front door. The first suspect, holding a handgun, told the female resident to sit down, that they were trying to locate a young child that had been taken from the residence. The second suspect then looked around the residence. Not taking anything, both suspects then left the residence by jumping off the balcony entrance and fleeing in an unknown direction. The two suspects were described as black males, ages 25 to 30, 140 lbs. The first suspect was 5-foot-4, wearing a white shirt, with long hair twists, a long face and large eyes. The second suspect was 5-foot-10, wearing a black shirt and long hair twists.      

A home invasion occurred on the 9300 block of Edmonston Road at 9:53 p.m. The first suspect climbed to the balcony and entered the apartment, then holding a handgun, demanded one of the two male victims to open the front door, allowing three more suspects to enter the residence. The second suspect was armed with a shotgun. The suspects rummaged through the apartment while the victims were held at gunpoint. Taking a laptop and cash, all four suspect then fled on foot out the front door in an unknown direction.

A Maryland MVA year sticker was stolen from a vehicle on the 6500 block of Springcrest Court.

Maryland tags (5DHL59) were stolen from a vehicle at 7500 Greenbelt Road. 

An attempted vehicle theft occurred on the 200 block of Lakeside Drive.

April 27: Alan Wesley Rippeon, 28, of Greenbelt was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 2:05 p.m. The suspect was released on citation pending trial.        

Michael Lee Pirela, 43, of Greenbelt was arrested and charged for possession of an open alcoholic beverage at 5:17 p.m. The suspect was released on citation pending trial.           

Johnny Witherspoon Gutlip, 48, of Silver Spring was arrested and charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia at 7:45 p.m. The suspect was released on citation pending trial.              

A vehicle’s driver side door was vandalized with graffiti at 6000 Greenbelt Road. 

A black Samsonite tote bag was stolen from a vehicle on the 6800 block of Springshire Way.

April 28: A front entrance window of the church at 10 Ridge Road was chipped. This incident was reported at 3:42 p.m.    

Gerod Donte Davis, 21, of Greenbelt was arrested and charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and issued traffic citations for failing to use his seatbelt and attempting to elude uniformed police by failing to stop his vehicle at 4:49 p.m. The suspect was released to the Department of Corrections for a hearing before a District Court commissioner.

While walking on the sidewalk on the 5800 block of Cherrywood Lane, a victim was robbed of cash at gunpoint at 9:16 p.m. The suspect was described as a black male, 18 to 21, with red hair, wearing a ski mask and all black clothing.

The passenger side window of a vehicle was broken on the 7900 block of Mandan Road.

A handicap placard #610435 was stolen from a vehicle on the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway. 

A handicap placard #759409 was stolen from a vehicle on the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway.

A handicap placard #730269 was stolen from a vehicle on the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway.

An attempted vehicle theft occurred on the 6000 block of Springhill Drive.
