2013: Nuel Nonny

I promised myself I’ll not think or review my 2012… Deolu should know by now I have no intentions of writing this…

I get scared of every mention or ping that hits my phone and that is not a good thing considering they come in large numbers. One fact is I have not written anything in a while (music review and entertainment news does not count). I started 2012 in a very good mood, 2011 was very ok so I expected 2012 to be far better. For someone who kicked off 2012 dancing, jubilating and all, until 1pm January 2012, I knew the plans for 2012 had changed.

Which kain President sef, you mean you’ll lose patience with us like that and remove subsidy?

As rumours spread of the President’s impending removal of subsidy on petroleum products, one thought crossed my mind,  NUEL GO GET FUEL AT 65 NAIRA FOR THE LAST TIME. Just like they say, it happened in front of my very korokoro eyes; Nigerians bought fuel at 65 naira, then 90 and finally at 141 naira … the hate, regret and all…

Fresh air everywhere that night as I left the filling station. How do you queue for 5 hours and your aim gets defeated that early in the year? I paid for a product my country has been blessed with abundantly at 141 naira per litre.

I accepted OCCUPY NIGERIA with open arms; I was already on the SAVE NIGERIA GROUP page, hello??? Erhmm, I did not join the street protests but took to twitter and every medium I could find. I occupied mainly from my sitting room, wasting the petroleum product which was already scarce was not part of my plan. The only way I could join others in Abuja to ‘occupy’ would be by driving down to Area 1 or Berger junction. I was also certain the Labour Leaders were going to sell us out so why try? Our voices were certainly heard sha.

As a writer, 2012 was the year I digressed much from my comfort zone telling stories, you know the fictional stuff and plenty lies (if you think it is easy, go write your own). I had to do more music reviews, cover news happenings and so many other stuffs. I believe for a ‘Learner’ writer (PLEASE SHUT UP! YES, I AM A LEARNER), I had one of my best posts in 2012. People still say I dubbed SAMPA. I joined BUZZ ENT NETWORKS fully sometime in 2012, it has been wonderful, plus the growth from a blog to a full blown site and attaining greater number of visits daily.

December 2012 was not funny, with the plenty shit talk about the world ending on 12.12.12, do not forget every Nigerian artiste dropped a song on that day! You expect me to believe the world will end on my birthday? The 21.12.12 version was worse, Nigerians knew more about the Mayan calendar compared to Google.  I lost the La Liga and the Champion’s league…

Messi has not been crowned for the fourth time and you say the world will end?

Let us leave 2012… 2013 is the year to make up for plenty mistakes and reaping where one has sown (I sound like a pastor now abi? Una go pay offering).  Deolu has taught me well so I whenever he calls on me.

But for all of you, WE SAY NO TO FREE WORK, I PUBLICISE, YOU PAY! I do not believe in new year resolutions but that does not mean I do not have goals I want to reach. 2013 is the door I have waited for, now I see a little glimpse and I plan to throw the door wide open. Even Deolu can’t make me share my plans with you guys so…all in all, I hope to have a fruitful and rewarding 2013. 2012 was a year of real hard work but you know what they say, hard-work always pays …. eventually.
