Cop guilty of drug-steal ploy

A Brooklyn cop yesterday was convicted of conspiring to steal drugs from suspects and give them to informants.

Sean Johnstone, of Brooklyn South Narcotics, was cleared of 34 other charges, most relating to official records, after a nonjury trial before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice John Walsh.

“I spent a lot of time [on this verdict]. There is just no way to escape the conclusion that the people proved beyond a reasonable doubt there was a conspiracy,” Walsh told Johnstone.

Johnstone was recorded on tape saying that his unit had seized 28 bags of narcotics. But it only turned in 17.

Another cop was acquitted in the case. A third landed one to three years.

Johnstone faces up to four years in prison.

His lawyer said he’d appeal the conviction.
