College Park Neighborhoods to Get Their Own Signs

Each community will get one shiny new sign by the end of summer, city planner says.

College Park may be one city, but it’s actually comprised of many distinct neighborhoods. You probably knew about Old Town, but have you heard of Yarrow? What about Calvert Hills?

Perhaps not, but thanks to neighborhood signs, which are scheduled to arrive in College Park by the end of summer, you’ll always know whether you’re in Lakeland or Berwyn. The city has budgeted $8000 to erect nine signs in as many communities around the city, said City Planner Elisa Vitale.

The signs are designed to resemble slightly smaller versions of the black and brown ones that mark the city boundaries.

Since each neighborhood will only get one sign, and it’s up to neighborhood associations to help determine where they should go. As of last week, however, only Berwyn, Lakeland and Old Town had offered feedback, Vitale said, though she suspects more will come forward as their associations meet.
