Man accused of killing half-brother reaches deal

MADISON — A man accused of fatally beating his autistic half-brother and hiding his body has reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Dane County.

Jeffrey Vogelsberg returned to court Tuesday and pleaded no contest to second-degree reckless homicide in the 2012 death of 27-year-old Matthew Granville. Vogelsberg's trial on charges of first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and intimidating a witness began last week. The trial stalled Thursday when the defendant was admitted to the hospital with an unidentified medical condition.

WISC-TV (http://strib.mn/XvSu2I ) reports the original charges will be dismissed under terms of the deal. Prosecutors will ask that Vogelsberg be sentenced to 12 years in prison and seven years of extended supervision. The defense will ask for eight years in prison. The charge carries a maximum of 15 years.
