Jared Steven Leone was high on mushrooms and hallucinating at the time of the incident, said Detective Sgt. Jim Shumway, a Beaverton police spokesman. Leone was arraigned in

Monday afternoon on two counts of assaulting a public safety officer, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The incident started shortly before 6 p.m. Friday when Leone walked up to the police records division window, located inside City Hall, and told a clerk he was "overdosing on mushrooms," court records say. Police said Leone banged his head on the bullet-proof window and started running in circles around the lobby.

Three officers contacted Leone: Sgt. Robert Davis and Officers Jason Billings and Pam Yazzolino. Leone grabbed Davis' gun during the incident and fired it once into the wall, according to records. No one was hit.

Officers continued to struggle with Leone.

Police said they "tased" Leone seven times, applying the weapon directly to him instead of firing it with probes. They also reportedly used a few knee strikes in an attempt to detain him. None was effective, police said.

More officers responded and eventually arrested Leone.

Davis suffered a shoulder injury. He was treated at a hospital following the incident and is off duty because he is hurt, police said.

Leone, who police said most recently lived in Seattle, was also treated at a local hospital before he was taken to the

. He remains in custody.
