13-year-old badly burned in shocking fire attack; teen charged

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A 13-year-old was arrested for throwing a lit bottle of perfume at a disabled teen in the West Brighton Houses, police allege.

The shocking attack occurred at 1 a.m. last Wednesday, Dec. 3, in an apartment at 820 Henderson Ave., according to cops.

A police source identified the victim as Deandre Bloomfield, also 13.

The assault allegedly began with the culprit bullying and hitting Deandre, according to a report in the Daily News. When Deandre, who is physically disabled, tried to leave the apartment, the suspect allegedly tossed the flaming perfume at him, the paper reported.

"We used to be friends but now we're not because of what he did to me," Deandre told the News.

The boy remains in the burn unit at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

In the days after the attack, Deandre's mom, Ursula Allen, posted messages on her Facebook page asking for prayers for her son.

She also announced an arrest last Thursday , saying "put God first, everything fall into place."

The suspect was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon for the attack against Deandre Bloomfield, also 13, according to a spokesman for the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

His name is being withheld due to his age.
