New charges for man seeking autistic child for sex on Craigslist

HOPE MILLS, N.C., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Police said they tacked on new charges for a North Carolina businessman accused of trying to find an autistic child with which to have sex on Craigslist.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office arrested William J. Faulkner Jr., 47, of Hope Mills in July for the incident, in which he met with a women he believed was willing to exchange a handicapped child for sex.

The woman was actually a sheriff's deputy who was posing as a mother of an autistic child on the online forum, The Fayetteville Observer reported Thursday.

Faulkner was charged with the unlawful sale, surrender or purchase of a minor, and indecent liberties with a child, said Debbie Tanna, a sheriff's department spokeswoman.

The department added a new charge -- solicitation to commit a felony -- Wednesday, the Observer said.

Police set bail for the new charge at $250,000.
