I have always resisted carrying business cards. There are a number of reasons for this, the primary one of which is probably that it is one more thing to carry around. When I carried a Palm phone, I could carry everybody’s information with me, and, after Allan Petker showed me how, beam mine and/or exchange contact info to other Palm devices. Cool.
But then I switched phones (for a good reason) and had to give up the Palm operating system. Much more difficult.
I became re-commited to business cards while attending CEO Space conferences. The contacts come too fast for anything other than just sharing business cards. I learned there, however, that it was really helpful to put my picture on my card…it served as a visual reminder of who I was to somebody who couldn’t quite remember (oh yes…the old guy…).
Best business card I ever saw during my days as a music publisher was one that Bob Schunemann of ECS Publishing had: it was business card sized CD Rom that had his contact info and the entire ECS catalog on it. Cool. I always wanted to follow up and steal that idea, but never got around to it.
So now, with the mag, I’ve been carrying around an idea for a business card for years…and seeing the following makes me more inclined to actually do something about it. Enjoy this list…
