Missing mentally ill Ga. woman and her five kids found safe

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A missing Clayton County, Ga. woman diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses, and her five children, were all found safe Monday afternoon, according to CBS affiliate WGCL.

The station reports that Janee Ruffin-Cooper, 31, and her children, Cherub Cooper, 1, Elijah Cooper, 4, Gabriel Cooper, 7, Ziona Cooper, 8, and Serenity Cooper, 9, were located at a homeless shelter. No criminal charges have been filed.

Police in Clayton County, Georgia had issued a public alert for the woman and the children Saturday.

Police say Ruffin-Cooper, 30, has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, paranoia and schizophrenia, and she requires medication, reports the station, adding that she tends to turn violent when she's not taking her meds.

"This is something out of the blue," said her husband Eugene Cooper. "Nothing happened."

Cooper told the station he came home from work Saturday, and realized his wife and children were gone, and she reportedly did not take her medications with her. He also said that when his wife is not taking her prescription medicine, she's inattentive and aggressive, he said.

"She can get irritated real quick." he said. "Having them (the children) with her, she may do anything. She may leave them with someone that she don't know, anything."
