CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A man is in custody after authorities say he sexually abused a 19-year-old woman with physical and mental disabilities for approximately a year long period.

Michael William Hess, 52, of Midland, is charged with one count of second degree rape, three counts of second degree sex offense and one count of sexual battery.

Authorities say the he was a person of trust to the victim while the acts were being committed.

Hess is being held at the Chatham County Jail under a $300,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court July 7.
