HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – Police say mental health technician, 22-year-old Stafford McIsaacs attacked a 25-year-old mentally disabled man at a Henrico group home.

McIsaacs was in court Friday morning, officially charged with one count of assault and one count of abuse and neglect.

The treatment team manager at the group home, Amy Evans, said the victim's parents pressed charges.

"We were very supportive of the family in whatever actions they wanted to take," said Evans. Police say the attack allegedly happened at this group home in west Henrico on January 18th.

Police won't go into detail about how the man was allegedly assaulted. They do say when they arrived McIsaacs and a witness to the incident were gone.

Henrico police spent nearly a month investigating this attack.

"He has been terminated. He was only with us for several weeks. He was not a long standing employee and of course he will not be coming back to us," said Evans.

Equally shocked and disappointed are those who worked with McIsaacs and dedicated their lives to helping the disabled.

"We are the ones who contacted the authorities because we wanted to make sure if something did happen, it never will happen again. We're here to help the residents. We're here to support them. The last thing we want is for anyone to start thinking group homes are a dangerous place to be," said Evans.

McIsaacs has been released from jail but he is scheduled to be back in court April 11th.
