Asheville man charged with assaulting handicapped woman

ASHEVILLE – A man being sought on charges of sexually assaulting a handicapped woman was arrested early Tuesday.

Freddy Norberton Henriquez, 46, of 63 Vandalia Ave., was charged with sexual battery and assault on a handicapped person, according to warrants at the Buncombe County magistrate’s office.

The victim was described in the warrants as “mentally disabled.” Henriquez is accused of “using his body weight to hold her down while making sexual contact with her,” according to warrants.

Henriquez also was served with an outstanding warrant from 2003 for simple assault in which he’s accused of assaulting a man.

Buncombe sheriff’s officers announced Monday they had taken out warrants against Henriquez for the alleded assault on the woman and were looking for him.

Henriquez is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $6,000 secured bond.
