MILITARY LEADERS ENDORSE CLINTON: Statement - 10/12/92 For Immediate Release: October 12, 1992 21 Military Leaders Endorse Bill Clinton for President; Endorse a Strong Defense and A Strong Economy Philadelphia, PA -- Saying "Bill Clinton can and should lead the United States of America," 21 highly respected retired military officers -- including the Army's Chief of Staff during the Reagan Administration, the Air Force's Chief of Staff from the Bush Administration, and the second highest ranking officer in Operation Desert Storm -- endorsed the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton and Al Gore. "In our view, the Commander-in-Chief must have sound judgement, a strong sense of purpose, clear understanding of national defense, and a vision for the country's future," said General Fred Woerner in his introduction of Clinton. "Bill Clinton has the qualifications to be Commander-in-Chief." Many of these highly-decorated officers served in combat, including World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. They include a diverse range of officers from four services with backgrounds in operational commands, intelligence, special operations, procurement, research and development, personnel, and military justice. The group also includes two pioneering women who rose through the ranks to become generals in the Army and the Marine Corps. "All of these people here today signed a statement which recognizes that in this time our nation can't be strong abroad unless we are strong at home," said Clinton. "Unless we can revitalize America's economic engine we will not be able to maintain our position as leader of the world." Admiral William J.
