Is Your Home Business in the Present or Past?

Home business in the past or presentThink about this for a moment because it really could be the difference whether you succeed or fail in your Home Based Business.  We all need to start looking at the real differences in the old traditional way of selling vs. the expectations that should be part of today’s way of selling.  Forget about trying to rely on using the  “hard sell” tactics many of us have been accustomed to throughout the years, and instead make way for consumers to start relying on their own conscious, informed decisions.

The trends are apparent – people trust “in your face” ads less and less.  They are now relying on their own trusted sources of accurate information to make buying decisions.  Before you ever start your home business, take a moment and ponder this switch in consumer behavior and start adjusting your plan of action AND – your way of thinking.

Here are a few things you might want to consider:

  • MINDSET – This needs to be the first and foremost item on your list.  Try to give yourself a fresh perspective and think how you would want to be treated when shopping for something.  You have to be willing to put yourself out there, study, learn and accept new ways of approaching your business and potential prospects.  Find new ways to attract people to you and your products instead of chasing them down and forcing them to look at things they may have no use for.

  • GIVE VALUE – What do you want to be known for?  No matter what you are selling, you have to provide real VALUE to people and educate them on the benefits of what you have to offer and how it can actually help them.  Step outside of your “salesman” shoes and inside the idea of solving problems for people and show them how you can truly improve their lives.  Be the Solution!  Provide useful, helpful and practical content in all of your ventures, and people will be naturally drawn to you and what you have to offer.

  • MENTOR – not manage – Everyone out there has had enough of being managed and told what they need to do, including being TOLD what they need to buy.  Always position yourself as the teacher.  It is VERY important to take the role of a mentor or teacher in your business, your marketing and the lives of your prospects.  As a mentor, you establish trust and become “the expert” that everyone wants to learn from AND “buy” from.

The bottom line is it’s really all about helping people make good decisions, while providing good, sound products and content for them to use.

Please let me know what you think of today’s business mindset.  Feel free to share with your friends on Twitter, Facebook and beyond.

Yours in Success,

  1. I have been involved in many home based initiaitves and some work out ok and and some do not. Glyna, you are right you need to be diligent when looking for real business online.

  2. Glyna, you are right! Business IS changing and making money today is different than it was 40 years ago. I have had the luck of getting on a home side business that suits me great. I am getting paid monthly (not much at first, but as months went by…) on things I set up and they have taken off and the effort is minimal after you get things setup correctly and going. So YES! Home Business is in the Present.

  3. Glyna,
You are so right about GIVING VALUE in today’s marketplace. The winners in Network Marketing today — or any business model for that matter — are the ones who focus on giving something that matters away, no strings attached! Thanks for outlining these 3 critical points so succinctly.

  4. Hi Glyna~

You’ve really laid out the perfect foundation for a thriving business in today’s climate.

My favorite quote comes to mind…. “Success means we go to sleep at night knowing that our talents and abilities were used in a way that served others.” ~Marianne Williamson

It takes having that mindset of service that allows us to be a mentor that makes a difference! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

  5. Well Glyna, You’ve certainly lived up to your principles of Mindset, Give Value, and Mentor. You did them all as you wrote this.

I have had my MLM in home business for nearly 40 years and have been paid residual income on work done in the first year.

The principles never change bu how they are implemented must keep up with the times.

    Thank you again,

    Sandy

  6. Hi Glyna,

Great points and very valid. People want to feel that connection to a person rather then a flashy website promoting a company. That was the old style, and I’m definitely on the bandwagon for this new style of marketing! So much more genuine, so much more enjoyable and get to meet great people at the same time!

    Keep up the great work.

    Blessings

  7. Glyna,
Great post. I have to agree with the three points mentioned in the article: Stay focused, have good values, and be a good mentor. I believe these are the core teachings of having a successful business.

  8. Great point Glyna!

The “new” ways of Internet marketing are so much more uplifting aren’t they? It’s great to know that everyone can be successful by helping one another and providing value to potential leads instead of throwing their opportunity in people’s faces.

I really look forward to growing along with the tribe phenomenon and taking full advantage of the “new” marketing tactics!
