Former Hinckley resident sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping children, person with disability

MEDINA, Ohio -- A 75-year-old man will spend up to 21 years in prison for raping two children and a person with a mental disability in Medina County between 2006 and 2009.

James I. Selch of West Salem pleaded guilty Feb. 5 to three counts of raping a child under age 13, three counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition.

Judge Joyce Kimbler handed down his sentence Thursday at Medina County Common Pleas Court. Selch is also required to register as a Tier III sex offender, meaning he is subject to registration and address verification requirements every 90 days for life.

Defense attorney Kevin Ondrey declined to comment on the sentencing Friday.

Selch, formerly of Hinckley Township, was charged with raping two children under age 13 between April 21, 2006 and April 27, 2007, according to an indictment filed in August. He was subsequently charged with raping a person with a mental disability between Sept. 17, 2009 and Nov. 6, 2009, according to a supplemental indictment filed in November.

Selch was arrested in Sept. 8 following an investigation by the Medina County Sheriff's Office.
