Halifax police say a woman is facing charges after she allegedly struck a woman in a wheelchair with a metal pipe.

Police responded to a report of an altercation between two women at the corner of Victoria and Albro Lake roads in Dartmouth just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police allege a 52-year-old woman, who was in a wheelchair, was struck in the head with a metal pipe by a 31-year-old woman during the fight.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect fled the area on foot but was later arrested.

She is due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Friday to face charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon
