To do
=======

* Create a set of easy-to-start paper prototype templates, inspired by DigitalMe's Badge Canvas and participatory design processes, that allow facilitators to lead participants through the teaching kit prototype + ideation process on paper by setting up the creative vision before putting it all online.
* Can also be used as starter activities for facilitators in lo-fi and offline environments.
* After community consultation, these to be user tested at various hands-on workshops and trainings.
Building content here https://kat.etherpad.mozilla.org/kitcanvas and once I have initial designs, will use this bug for QA and community feedback.

Hey guys - quick update that we'll be working to integrate these paper prototypes into a Teaching Kit on how to teach the web in low-fi and offline environments. Team of kit codesigners being built here: https://teach.etherpad.mozilla.org/lowfikit

Please add your name if you'd like to help build this kit - it'll be such a useful resource for our communities to get started with.

+ Ben, re: Indonesia summer maker parties.
I've completed a first draft of the Teaching Kit Design Canvas (see attachment, would love design review!) which has been tested this weekend at NCS training in London.

Note that fonts are deliberately not Webmaker given this is a 'non-official' prototype at moment.
Teaching Kit Design Canvas
I think this is a great start! I have a hunch that people will have trouble fitting their key teaching kit ideas on an 8.5 x 11 page. If others feel the same, it might be nice to have a 1 page version and a multi-page version available as printable worksheets.
Good point Karen, and agreed. It was hard to balance out the concern of not wanting to require too much paper/printing, but also not making things too tiny. I'm hoping that by also offering supplementary canvasses for each Activity, they can put the more granular information there, and stick to key concepts on this one. But hmm, a multipage option is a really good idea too!
Update: Activity created to supplement this canvas. Draft, please share feedback if have it! https://keyboardkat.makes.org/thimble/LTU0ODUzNjMy/prototyping-with-a-teaching-kit-design-canvas
Really, really good, Kat!

Only a couple of suggestions:

1. Change the 'sentence summary' to 'Tweet-length description' as it sounds cooler, implicitly encourages sharing, and seems more familiar to people these days.

2. Create an etherpad or lower-bar way to give feedback than using Bugzilla. Lots of people gave feedback on the WebLitMapper via an etherpad, for example, that I turned into GitHub issues.

Other than that, can't think of anything else to say. Stellar work. :-D
Cross-posting feedback from an email:

* The canvas focuses the conversation. When we asked the participants to plan their lessons, the canvas was very helpful to ground the conversation and guide them through key points. We didn't have to give so many instructions because all the details where on paper.
* The format is big, and it invites collaboration and discussion. It's nice on the eyes. ^-^
* There might be a need for an additional sheet or instructions. We found with the NCSers that they were a little thrown by terms like "learning objectives". An extra bit of context might be needed for non-educators who aren't used to making lessons.
* Relatedly, maybe there is a worksheet or other storyboard step that gets them first thinking of their lesson as a narrative. "What do you want your learners to know and do by the end? Tell the story of how to get there step by step." The NCSers needed help to understand how the canvas gets them to that point, and more support around "how do you see your lesson working" would increase the quality of what people make.
* Playtesting worked really well. If short on time, as we were, we asked groups to walk each other through their kit without fully teaching it.
* Lastly, the agenda section could be bigger. That's a central and complex piece, and a number of groups ran out of space there, while other sections like additional resources, were slim.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback, it's really useful! Integrating it into version 2 of these templates (and the Activity template, upcoming) for next week.
Version 2, with changes made based on feedback.

This now added as a core activity for our LoFi/NoFi Teaching Kit http://is.gd/4qH6y4 , and given the great feedback we've received on both Draft 1 and 2, I am marking it as resolved.

Feel free to re-poen, though, if you have additional feedback that needs a redesign!
