WISCASSET, Maine — An Indiana man charged with pretending to be a Maine high school student on Facebook and convincing a developmentally disabled Lincoln County teen to send him sexually explicit photos pleaded not guilty Thursday in Wiscasset Superior Court.

Danny Douglas, 47, was extradited to Maine in November and indicted by a Lincoln County grand jury the following month for a single count of Class B felony sexual exploitation of a minor.

Douglas, of Thorntown, Indiana, has been held without bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset since November. He was returned to Two Bridges following Thursday morning’s arraignment, according to a jail official.

Prosecutors charge Douglas with telling the minor in an online chat room that he was a 17-year- old high school student from Maine.

Police allege that the minor acknowledged sending sexually explicit photos of herself to Douglas, and that he asked her to perform sexual acts, the Lincoln County News reported. The teen’s mother told police that the two allegedly exchanged approximately 1,300 messages.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Wright and Douglas’ attorney, Walter McKee, both confirmed Thursday that they are discussing a plea agreement.

If convicted, Douglas faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
