The body of a Capitol Heights man missing since 2008 was identified this month and police are investigating his death as a homicide, announced Prince George’s County police Friday.
Police identified Anthony Jerome Nelson, 30, of the 6900 block of Aquamarine Court as the person found dead in a community park in March.
Nelson’s family reported him missing on August 16, 2008, after he walked out of his family’s home saying he was going to meet friends and never returned. Just a few hours after he left, two burglars broke into the home, bound family members with duct tape and stole various items and money from the home, according to reports published at the time of Nelson’s disappearance.
Prince George’s County police homicide detectives are reviewing whether there are any connections between Nelson’s disappearance and the robbery, said police spokeswoman Cpl. Erica Johnson.
Nelson’s body was not found until March of this year when someone discovered human remains in a wooded portion of the Marlton Community Park in the 8000 block of Croom Road. Through DNA testing, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore determined that the body found in the park was Nelson.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 301/772-4925.
