Teacher accused of assaulting special ed student won't stand trial

A Des Moines fifth-grade teacher who was accused of assaulting a special education student on two occasions in April will not stand trial.

Anita Babe, a fifth-grade teacher at Hubbell Elementary School in Des Moines, has been accused of assaulting a special education student.

Charges against Anita Babe, 49, were dismissed Friday. Babe had been charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

A Des Moines woman told police on April 18 that Babe assaulted her 12-year-old son on two occasions in April at Hubbell, 800 42nd St.

Babe was accused of grabbing the victim by his arms, pulling him and causing bruises on his arms.

Babe worked for the district since 1991, and was acting as dean of students during the time of the incident.
