Galloway cut confirmed

We heard earlier this morning a rumor that the Patriots have cut receiver Joey Galloway.

Steve Duemig of WDAE in Tampa tells us that, indeed, Galloway has been released.

Duemig contacted Galloway, who confirmed that he is indeed gone.

Galloway entered the league in 1995 as a first-round pick of the Seahawks. He was traded to the Cowboys in 2000 for two first-round picks after holding out for a large chunk of the 1999 season.

After four years with the Cowboys, Galloway signed with the Buccaneers, where he spent five years.

Galloway signed with the Patriots in the offseason. In three appearances, he caught seven passes for 67 yards.

Because he was cut before the trade deadline, he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He also is entitled to collect the balance of his $1.15 million base salary as termination pay, regardless of whether he signs with a new team.
