Lamenting the culture’s “hedonism, selfish individualism, and rampant relativism,” Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh has issued a pastoral letter on respect for human life and dignity. The bishop condemns abortion, euthanasia, and other direct attacks on the sanctity of human life while denouncing contraception, sterilization, pornography, “polyamorous relationships,” and other offenses against the dignity of marriage and family life.
In the letter-- dated October 17-- Bishop Zubik also calls Catholics to work for peace and the eracdication of worldwide poverty, to oppose racism and the death penalty, and to promote the idea of a living family wage.
