Totally agree. I'm a big fan of Randi. My comment was in reference to to the hucksters that say he is making money at their expense.

My only complaint is the fake "balance" the writer/editors felt was needed by letting Uri Geller make a whole bunch of unchallenged statements.

I knew this was Randi just from the quote. That's exactly what I'd expect him to say.

Subby here, the article did give me the sad, James Randi is definitely one of my heroes since I learned of him in my AP psych class.

I have hope for his style of skepticism tho, I think this is the next Randi in many ways.

I hear ya there. Randi became a hero of mine in my young adulthood; he helped cement my skepticism.
It makes me gooshy and sobby inside to think we'll be losing him soon...

James Randi is an amazing guy. I remember I bought one of his magic books when I was 10 or 11 years old and loved his writing style. I followed up with other stuff he did as I got older. He is one of my personal heroes. If only more people would listen to the guy.

Hero tag next time, perhaps? So we don't all think the guy died already?

I think the work he has done is remarkable. I just wish there were more like him who would go after religious frauds with the same gusto. Talk about the heartless ripping off of the vulnerable!

I guess he went after psychics instead of religions because there is a millions-strong "militia" who would just as soon he die violently than expose religion for what it is.

I dislike Randi's style. He comes down so hard on some of these people I actually feel bad for them.

It helps if I remind myself that the people he targets are the ones that make the outrageous claims and are defrauding trusting people.

I took a Psychology of Psuedoscience class in college and Randi came to talk. As a whole, I learned more in that 1 semester class that was relevant to everyday life than I did in any other class. Getting to meet and talk with James Randi was icing on the cake. It will be sad when he goes :(

Geller is a fraud but he is probably the smartest huckster there is. Like an oily politician he can never be pinned down or forced to prove anything. He makes all the other scammers look like pikers.
