Former minister Hershkowitz appointed president of Bar Ilan University

Former Science and Technology Minister Professor Daniel Hershkowitz was appointed as the new President of Bar Ilan University this week.
At a ceremony marking the occasion, Hershkowitz, who succeeds Prof. Moshe Kaveh, said he was deeply moved by the appointment and expressed his appreciation of the university’s achievements.
"I don't know of another institution in academia that has developed so dramatically in such a short period of time," he said.
Hershkowitz, a mathematician and community rabbi, has served in a number of high profile academic and public positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Dean of the Division of Continued Education and External Studies, Chairman of the Academic Faculty Union and President of the Disciplinary Court at the Technion, where he studied.
Alongside his academic career, Hershkowitz also serves as rabbi of the Ahuza neighborhood in Haifa, and as President of the Rabbinic Court presiding over issues of conversion.
