Dillon Cos., a unit of Kroger and operator of the King Soopers supermarket chain in Colorado, will pay $80,000 to a mentally challenged employee who was allegedly bullied, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Tuesday.

The EEOC filed a lawsuit in 2009 alleging that Lakewood King Soopers supervisors repeatedly subjected a 10-year employee to bullying and taunting because of his learning disability. The commission alleged that this harassment ultimately led to the employee’s termination. There was no finding that King Soopers engaged in any violation of the law. A business decision was made to settle the case, the company said.
