British TV comedian Rich Fulcher interviews British TV comedian Matt Berry about his career in music and TV. Here's a little bit more about the writers/musicians/actors:
Matt's musical and comedic career to date
Matt Berry walked out of the London Dungeon and straight onto the small screen as Dr Lucien Sanchez in Channel 4's Garth Marengi's Darkplace. He then joined the Mighty Boosh team as Dixon Bainbridge the evil Zoo owner, where he met a certain Rich Fulcher. Just before Christmas 2004, Matt and old Darkplace pal Richard Ayoade wrote the rock opera AD/BC for the BBC. (Matt wrote and produced the musical score). Matt must have caught the attention of Vic and Bob, because they asked him to feature in their sketch show Monkey Trousers for ITV. It was there that he met Steve Coogan, who in turn asked him to contribute musically to his new sitcom Saxondale. It was at this time that Matt with Rich Fulcher were commissioned to write a six-episode sketch show for BBC THREE. Matt and Rich scratched their heads, spat on the floor and tossed off 'Comedy Bronze', which was eventually renamed Snuff Box.
Rich's career to date
Rich is best known in the UK for his long-term association with The Mighty Boosh, starring as Zooniverse boss Bob Fossil, plus a multitude of other characters, on stage, screen and in your ears. However, many viewers may have unwittingly seen him as one of Wayne's body doubles in Wayne's World 2. He's also starred in his own programmes on British television (such as Modern Problems in Science and sketch show Unnatural Acts on Paramount Comedy) and a peformed in number of acclaimed solo stand-up shows. Perhaps his most notorious show was the autobiographical Mom I'm Not a Lawyer, which he took to Edinburgh: in his native America, though he studied to become a laywer, Rich took up improv comedy instead. He became involved in the Boosh when met them on tour in America, and he met Matt Berry whilst working on the first series of the TV version. Matt's character Dixon Bainbridge gave him repeated beatings, and a friendship was born.
