A Vancouver man was sentenced Monday to more than 14 years in prison for kidnapping, assaulting and robbing three people in October in the city’s Central Park neighborhood.

Nicholas M. Loredo, 35, pleaded guilty Dec. 12 in Clark County Superior Court to first-degree robbery and first-degree kidnapping in exchange for reduced charges. He was originally charged with three counts each of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.

Judge Barbara Johnson sentenced him to the maximum amount of time under standard state sentencing guidelines because of his extensive criminal history.

The kidnapping occurred after Loredo’s friend, Leslie D. LaRue, 37, of Vancouver asked him for help in recovering some stolen property from some mutual friends, said Loredo, accompanied by his attorney, Diane Sweet.

“I tried to mitigate a dispute between friends, and things got out of hand,” he said Monday.

The three victims, two men and one underage girl, drove early Oct. 15 to the home of Loredo’s lover, Tyffanie M. Kuykendall. After they pulled into the driveway, Loredo used his Ford Ranger to block them in, according to a court records. Armed with a handgun, he approached the victims’ vehicle, opened one of the car’s back doors and ordered the three into Kuykendall’s residence, according to court records. Once inside, Loredo told them to sit on the couch, remove their shoes, empty their pockets and surrender their backpacks.

Loredo assaulted one of the male victims, court records say.

He drove the 17-year-old female victim to another location, where LaRue allegedly assaulted her, said Deputy Prosecutor Anna Klein.

The victims were held for about two hours before being released because an Amber Alert had been issued for the underage female victim.

Kuykendall pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree robbery for helping Loredo take items out of the victims’ backpacks and was sentenced to 366 days in prison.

LaRue is accused of helping plan the crimes. She is scheduled to be tried March 3 on charges of criminal conspiracy, second-degree assault and first-degree robbery.

In most criminal cases, accomplices are barred from contacting each other while serving their respective sentence. Johnson, however, agreed to allow Loredo and Kuykendall to remain in touch because Kuykendall is pregnant with Loredo’s child, Loredo said.

In addition to more than 14 years in prison, Loredo is required to serve 18 months of probation and is forbidden from having contact with LaRue and the three victims.
