Mother of abandoned baby sought

Abandoned baby scene

A mother, who could be in need of urgent medical help, is being sought after a newborn baby girl was found abandoned in Buckinghamshire.

Thames Valley Police said the baby, still with her umbilical cord attached, was discovered in bushes on a piece of open ground in High Wycombe.

She is safe and well and is being cared for by staff at Wycombe General Hospital, who have named her Rosie.

The birth was unsupervised so the woman may need medical help, police said.

A woman found the baby wrapped in a grey cardigan inside a pink and white canvas bag on Oxford Road, near a newly opened supermarket, police added.

Medical complications

Det Sgt Robin Hughes said: "Our primary concern is for the health of Rosie's mother.

"We urgently want her to come forward or at least seek treatment, as she could suffer medical complications which are potentially very dangerous.

"The umbilical cord was still attached when the child was found, so this would not have been a medically supervised birth."

Police have appealed for witnesses and believe the baby was left in the bushes between 1200 and 1500 BST on Tuesday.

They want anyone who saw someone who could have left the child there to contact them.
