  Ang northbridge ay yung malaking chip malapit sa processor. Nakakabit din sya sa heatsink.
  
  Oo, nakaipit yung parang foam sa pagitan ng chip at ng heatsink.
  Thermally conductive yun, huWag mong tanggalin yun maliban lang kung may pamalit ka.
  
  Pwede mo palitan yung foam ng aluminum o copper sheet-- hindi foil, mas makapal, mga .5mm hanggang 1.0mm siguro.
  Lagyan mo ng thermal paste sa magkabilang side, tapos ipitin mo sa pagitan ng chip at heatsink.
  
  Ang pumapatay kasi sa mga yan yung paulit-ulit na thermal expansion/contraction. Nagkakaroon ng microscopic na fractures yung solder joints, at pag lumala yun mapuputol yung mga solder joint. :(
  
  Temporary solution --> reheat, meaning paiinitan yung chip para matunaw ng kaunti yung solder at mabalik yung electrical contact. Pero eventually masisira ulit yung solder joints. :(
  
  Yung iba naman, reballing ang ginagawa. Tinantanggal yung chip at pinapalitan ng solder.
  Mas tatagal ito kesa sa reheat, pero eventually masisira din.
  
  Siguro para tumagal ang buhay ng mga CQ40 kailangan ng:
  1. modding para ma-improve ang cooling performance
  2. undervolting ng processor at ng northbridge para bumaba ang init na nilalabas nila.

  @awak .. cge subukan ko ulit baklasin un.. sa ngaun tinambak ko na muna .. d ko kasi magamit .. ok naman ung LCD walang prob dun lang talga tingin ko sa chip ang me prob. by the way ung sa me toucpad na banda . sobrang init sya .. ano ba meron un .. at paano ma sosolb kaya un ? ty po

  may tatlong CQ40 yung barkada ko na pina-repair sa akin, na-isolate ko na motherboard pare-pareho ang sira. Wala kasi akong hot air gun kaya option ko lang is i-heat sa oven. Heated at approximately mga 350F in 8 minutes, then sa 3 - dalawa lang ang gumana. Pero yung isang gumana mga few hours lang ay bumalik uli sa dati (caps lock ang numlock lights blinking), isa lang gumagana up to now. Mukhang hindi talaga maganda ang ganitong model (CQ40), pangit ang cooling system.

  Advice lang sa mga bagong nakaranas ng problem na blinking lights at no boot, wag niyo na subukan palitan yung proc kahit yun ang indication ng blinking pattern. Sa lahat ng nakita kong nagkaron ng ganung issue, laging yung gpu ang problema.
  
  Dalawa lang ang option sa pag ayos nito: reball or reflow. Pero temporary fix lang ito. Masisira at masisira din pag tagal. Masyado namang mahal magpalit ng mobo. Sa halagang 10k, bumili ka na lang ng bagong laptop.
  
  Kung sakali namang ok pa ang unit mo, make sure to back up your data kasi bigla na lang namamatay to. Kung marunong ka magbukas ng laptop, at least pwede mo tanggalin ang HDD at ikabit sa extrenal drive. Pero kung hindi, mas mabuti nang safe.

  Your CPU temp is already 100 degrees Celsius.
  
  Most AMD CQ40s idle above 50c.
  Under normal use it can get above 60c.
  75c is high, but might still be workable.
  Anything higher is alarming.
  
  In any case, you need to disassemble your laptop and remove the dust and dirt that\'s clogging the cooling fins of the heatsink.
  Apply new thermal paste as well.

  most laptops particularly cq40 series dapat po di tumataas beyond 65 degrees ang temp nyan,kasi melting point na po ng ball ng gpu ang 70degrees celcius afaik..
  kapag umaabot na sa 100 degrees wag kana magulat na pag on mo ng laptop mo one day e with power no display na na yan..
  
  accessing cq40\'s heatsink cooling fan is not that easy cause you need to disassemble every parts up to the mobo para makalas mo yung fan
  download ka ng cq40 manual para makita mo pano i-disassemble ang laptop,sa youtube meron din..

  me problema po ang cq40-310au ko, pag nagseselect ako ng kahit ano automatic lilipat sa kanan o kasunod sa kanan ung selection ko, pag nagtatype naman ako, ung cursor automatic pumupunta sa kanan ng mabilis lets say tatlong letters kada segundo.. ano po kayang problema nito? ok naman po ung arrow key wla nmn nakabara, nilinis ko na ang keyboard ganun parin.. kahit po tanggalin ko ang mouse at sa touchpad gamitin ko, ganun parin po.. pls help.. thanks..

  Since you\'re going to clean your heatsink, it\'s a good idea to apply new thermal paste as well.
  But you need to remove all traces of the old thermal paste from the processor as well as the part of the heatsink that makes contact with it.
  
  The gurus recommend using 90-96% isopropyl alcohol, but it can be a bit hard to find.
  
  So I use 70% isopropyl alcohol (without moisturizer) and some oil (light machine oil or \"Singer oil\"); in a pinch you can use cooking oil.
  
  Usually after 3 years, the thermal paste has dried up, and it can be a bit hard to remove with just alcohol.
  
  Put a few drops of oil to moisten and soften the dried-up paste. Wipe with a clean cloth. Repeat as necessary.
  If most or all of the paste has softened, switch to alcohol. Make sure there are no traces left of the old paste.
  
  Be careful when cleaning the processor. Don\'t use too much force. If the processor die (the mirror-like rectangle in the middle of the chip) is damaged in any way, your processor is wrecked.
  
  The thermal paste usually comes with instructions on how to apply it on the processor. Follow it.
  If there are no instructions, the general rule is \"put a small amount, around the size of a grain of rice, in the center of the processor die.\" The processor die is the mirror-like rectangle in the middle of the processor package.
  
  Alternatively, you can use the edge of a plastic card, like an expired credit/ATM card or even an MRT card to spread the thermal paste evenly on the processor die.
  
  OPTIONAL MODIFICATION
  
  The GPU/northbridge chip uses a thermal pad to make contact with the heatsink.
  You can replace this pad with a small rectangular piece of thin aluminum sheet (around 0.5-1.0mm thickness; no, aluminum foil cannot be used) to improve the thermal conductivity. If you can find copper sheet (not bronze), even better.
  
  The size of the sheet is important. It must be a bit larger than the GPU die (the mirror-like part in the center), but not big enough to touch the other components on the GPU chip.
  
  You can use metal polish to make the sheet smoother.
  
  Put thermal paste on the GPU chip, then place the aluminum piece over it.
  Apply thermal paste on the part of the heatsink that contacts the GPU (make sure you remove the thermal pad beforehand).
  
  I think it was sir ParticleX who did this mod on his laptop (not a CQ40) and reported a 10 deg celsius decrease in GPU temps.

  Guys paano kayo nag reflow ng GPU ninyo? Hot air station lang ba ang kailangan? At ilang degrees at minutes niyo naset? Baka bumili nalang ako ng hot air station para hands on... lagi naman ito nasisira eh.

  Yup, eto ang major issue ng CQ40. Kaya gusto ko na bumili ng hot air station nalang para ako nalang gagawa ng reflow. Wala pang three years bumigay na.
  
  Compal ba ang gumagawa ng boards ng Compaq? Kung sino may first hand info, pa confirm naman kung eto nga ang OEM nila. Kung totoo, iiwasan ko na lahat ng boards na gawa ng Compal.

  Mga sir, need your help.
  After ko mag-update ng bios ng compaq cq40-310AU, from F33.a to F55, nagshutdowm then ayaw na magboot, nagbiblink lang ang caps lock at num lock. Win 7 ang OS.
  Ano kaya naging problema at paano ayusin?

  Hardware problem yan sir. Backread ka, yang ang sakit ng laptop na to. Pwede mo subukan magpa reflow para mapagana yan pero temporary fix lang yun. Walang permanent fix ang problem na to. Looks like magpapalit ka na talaga ng laptop.

  Update: I\'m disappointed sa diagnosis ng Action Labs. Yung report na binigay nila cause ng failure is by third party RAM!!!! Yun na ang RAM na ginamit ko nung binili ko ang unit. Kaya tinanong ko kung nireflow nila ang CPU. GPU/chipset ang nirefow nila. Ang pinagtaka ko bakit hindi CPU ang nireflow pero hindi nila inexplain sakin ng mabuti na socketed pala ang processor at hindi BGA na akala ko.
  
  Eto ang super saya: Dinala ko sa Netpia I.T. Solution. Mas mahal ang service nila pero inoffer nila ako na buksan sa harap ko. Ok doon ko nalaman na socketed ang processor. Pagkabukas ang dumi dumi dumi sa loob!?!? Tapos sinabi ng technician na baka di pa ito nagalaw dahil intact pa ang seals ng mga piyesa na dapat natanggal kung gagalawin ito. Ayos ang Action Labs!!!!

  Mga sir,
  Share ko lang naging solusyon sa issue ng blinking caps at num lock ng compaq cq40-310AU (see post dated May 25). May nakita ako sa youtube na binugahan ng hot air yung video chip, gumana. Sinubukan ko, alatsamba lang, pinabugahan ko yung video chip sa tech ng cellphone, mga 30 seconds. Gumana na, hindi ko lang alam kung tatagal, pero nagamit ko ng almost 10 hours, walang problema.
  Akala ko una wala na talaga pag-asa. Try nyo rin sa mga may same problem. Hanapin nyo lang sa youtube-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDjpB3NdJiQ

  Sa may IT Center doon sa Gilmore. Yung malaking building tanong niyo nalang nasa 3rd floor. Check niyo nalang recent posts ko.
  Sakit na talaga ng CQ40 ito. Hindi rin tumatagal ang reflow. Three months before bumigay uli. Either bili ka ng hot air station para ikaw nalang mag reflow or ditch this POS.

  Good Day mga Sir!
  
  Currently yung Laptop ko nakaka experience ng BSOD. 0x0000007b code, base sa mga search na ginawa ko need ko mabago yung sa BIOS (harddrive controller) yung may Option na SATA,IDE oR AHCI
  
  ang problem ko ngayon yung Laptop ko walang access sa advanced settings ng BIOS which is nandun yung option na need ko..
  
  any suggestion po? kung pano ko ma aacess yung advanced settings ng bios?
  or baka may ibang solusyion pa yung BSOD 0x000007b

  Dual Core
  2gb RAM
