Cilla Black will be buried alongside her parents rather than having her ashes scattered next to those of her late husband Bobby, her family has confirm.

Her funeral is due to be held next week in her home city of Liverpool.

The star, who died of a stroke after falling and hitting her head at her Spanish villa on August 1, aged 72, will be laid to rest at St Mary's Church in Woolton, Merseyside - where she and her late husband Bobby Willis married in March 1969.

The former pop star's body has already been flown back to the UK in advance of the funeral next Thursday.

It was thought the singer would be cremated after a funeral service near her mansion in Denham, Buckinghamshire - just like her husband Bobby, who died in 1999.

His remains were scattered at her various homes in the UK and abroad.

But yesterday it was confirmed that fans and well-wishers were welcome to see Cilla off in a public funeral service.

Afterwards her sons Robert, 45, Jack, 35, and Ben Willis, 41, will attend a private burial at Allerton Cemetery, where they will lay their mum to rest beside her parents John, a docker who died in 1971, and clothes-selling mum Priscilla, who passed away in 1996.

A spokesman for the family explained: "The funeral of singer and TV star Cilla Black will take place at 1pm on Thursday 20th August 2015 at St Mary's Church, in Cilla's home city of Liverpool.

"The Right Reverend Thomas Williams, Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool and former Parish Priest of St Anthony's, Scotland Road, will celebrate the Mass."

Last week her son Robert revealed how his parents shared a magic bond, explaining: "Their relationship was unique.

"My father always pushed my mother to the fore. He made sure that she was happy and well looked after, never looking for the limelight himself."

The star made a posthumous comeback to the UK music charts last week with her compilation album The Very Best Of.
