Finally, 2-wheeled nudity in Philly

We'll claim the arrival of the Naked Bike Ride - in which participants baring whatever they dare call attention to fuel economy and bike safety - here in town as a victory.

Earth to Philly doesn't want to jump to conclusions about cause and effect, but we noted earlier that since this blog's inception last fall, Philly's Dumpster Divers have become gallery-hopping media darlings... so why not go out on a limb again?

In that spirit, we'll claim the arrival of the Naked Bike Ride - in which participants baring whatever they dare call attention to fuel economy and bike safety - here in town as a victory.

After all, as today's front-page Daily News story by Stephanie Farr reports, Sunday's event (location as yet undisclosed) is happening because its organizers got frustrated that the World Naked Bike Ride was Passing Us By.

Clifford Greer ... heard of the World Naked Bike Ride, in which cyclists in cities across the world unite to ride nude. He wished the event would come to Philadelphia, but when his hopes didn't materialize, he and some friends decided to take matters into their own hands in March and organize a Philly ride.

March, eh? Well isn't that a coincidence! So unless the event turns into an ugly melee with police and somebody gets badly hurt (in which case Earth to Philly had absolutely nothing to do with instigating it) we'll chalk this one up as an E2P win. In the immortal words of Freddie Mercury, get on your bikes and ride!
