While not replacing the Nautilus file manager or playing a major role within the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.2, there is a new GNOME file manager available.

This new GNOME file manager just had its first official release and it's being called the Emperor file manager. The file manager is inspired by Midnight Commander while having a GTK3 interface via Gala.

This file manager also boasts GIO support so that it integrates with the GNOME desktop and can take advantage of GVFS-FUSE.

From the Emperor 0.1 release announcement, "While it is not yet full-featured, it is complete enough to be useful and has good support for network file systems and automatic mounting of archive files. Emperor strives to provide a user interface familiar to users of Total Commander, Krusader, or GNOME Commander."

There's also a basic web-site for this new GNOME Emperor file manager.
