SAPULPA, Okla. – A Creek County official has been arrested after he allegedly used money meant for a special needs child to fix the roads surrounding his property.

An Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent arrested Creek County District 2 Commissioner Rick Stewart for embezzlement.

Officials say Stewart went before the commissioners to request money be spent to upgrade a road near the home of a special needs child so the school bus could pick up and drop off the child at his driveway.

Commissioners approved the project but had no idea the project was really centered near Stewart’s home.

One of his neighbors reported seeing Stewart using county equipment to mow his property and haul brush.

Authorities say Stewart also told a foreman that he did not care if he was re-elected and the only reason he ran for county commissioner was “to fix his road.”

When the project was completed, the majority of the work was on a road a quarter of a mile west of Stewart’s property, rather than the road requested for the special needs child.

Stewart was arrested on six counts of embezzlement.
