SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake International Airport is preparing to offer wireless Internet access for free.

Right now it costs $7.95 to log onto Wi-Fi for 24 hours at the airport. But the Deseret News reports Wi-Fi at Salt Lake International will be free beginning in early July.

That's great news to some people we found waiting for a flight.

"I wonder why they didn't do it earlier, but that's a great idea," one woman said. "I think a lot of people will use it so then they don't just have to wait around and have nothing to do."

The change will mean some lost revenue for the airport. According to the Deseret News, in about the past 24 months the airport received almost $293,000 in Wi-Fi revenues from its arrangement with Boingo Wireless. The airport will drop the Boingo contract at the end of June but keep the equipment needed to provide Wi-Fi.

Customer reviews of Salt Lake International often cite people frustrated with paying the Wi-Fi price.

Other airports that offer free Wi-Fi include Las Vegas, Denver, Portland, Hong Kong, Calgary, Charlotte and Orlando.
